The Pull: Trichotillomania

An ongoing project documenting my experience with Trichotillomania, a compulsive hair-pulling disorder I have lived with since 2013. I began the work when I was 19 and have continued photographing myself into adulthood.

The project documents the cycle of pulling, confronting the damage, and having to start over. Over time, the aftermath becomes harder to ignore. Hair collecting everywhere, increasingly visible bald spots, and the tools I use to shave my head become part of that repetitive routine.

Growing up, I was mocked and made to feel ashamed of this behavior, which is often misunderstood and kept hidden. In this work, I photograph myself without trying to conceal or soften what is visible. By documenting my experience honestly, I hope to bring visibility to something rarely discussed and create a sense of recognition for others who have experienced it.
